As part of the ongoing cooperation and support in the work and development of the B&amp;H Border Police, the Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) program of the US Department of State donated the equipment to combat the spread of COVID-19 worth 144,000 KM to the B&amp;H Border Police.

On this occasion, the Director of the B&amp;H Border Police, Zoran Galić, thanked for the donated equipment and the long-term support provided by the US Government, the B&amp;H BP announced.
-For 16 years, the US Government has been continuously providing us with support through various types of donations, from specialist equipment, protective equipment during a pandemic, as well as a series of organized trainings for Border Police officers and that they are always open to help when we express the need for it, and they also recognize the importance of investing in this police agency- said Director Galić.

Austria will only use Russia's Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine once the European Medicines Agency has approved it, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said on Monday, amid growing public frustration with the pace of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Austria has been in talks with Russia to buy a million doses of the vaccine, and Kurz said on March 31 the order would probably be placed the following week. However, that order has yet to be announced.
Kurz had recently avoided saying whether his country would await EMA approval of the vaccine, which has been used in the European Union only by Hungary so far. EMA has launched a rolling review of Sputnik V.
-We hope it will quickly be approved by EMA as every extra vaccine dose helps us save lives- Kurz said in a statement, adding that his conservatives and their coalition partner, the Greens, had agreed to make the order. A Kurz spokesman confirmed that meant it would only be used after EMA's approval.
The efficacy of the two-shot Sputnik V vaccine was initially greeted with scepticism by some Western scientists after Russia approved it in August last year without waiting for the results of full clinical trials.
However, scientists said it was almost 92% effective in fighting COVID-19, based on peer-reviewed late-stage trial results published in The Lancet medical journal in February.
Many European officials still have concerns about Russia's intentions in exporting it to dozens of countries when it has yet to vaccinate most of its own population.
Only two other EU countries, Hungary and Slovakia, have ordered Sputnik V and only Hungary has used it. The issue is so controversial in Slovakia that it sparked a political crisis that prompted Prime Minister Igor Matovic to resign last month.

Austria will only use Sputnik V vaccine after EMA approval, Kurz says

The head of the Clinic for Anesthesia and Resuscitation of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS), Amela Katica-Mulalić, was questioned last week in the Prosecutor's Office of B&amp;H, as part of the investigation of "raspberry respirators", which are used only in this medical institution, "Avaz" portal finds out.

Dr. Katica-Mulalić's testimony to the prosecutors working on the investigation took a full seven hours.
Prosecutors, as we find out, were interested who approved the use of respirators procured by "Silver Raspberry" in COVID wards at KCUS, as well as a letter from anesthesiologists sent to the Administration, which talks about the catastrophic situation in the treatment of coronavirus patients.
The statement of Katica-Mulalić, given on several pages, does not go in favor of the general director Sebija Izetbegović, the wife of Bakir Izetbegović, the leader of the SDA.
This is exactly one of the reasons why Sebija is in total panic and why the alleged "doctors" of KCUS, 15 days after the visit of the state prosecutor Džermin Pašić in this institution, decided to file a report with the Office of the Disciplinary Prosecutor against him.

Greece said Monday that travellers from the EU and five other countries who are fully vaccinated or have a recent negative Covid test will no longer have to quarantine on arrival. 

Visitors from the EU, Britain, the United States, Israel, Serbia and the United Arab Emirates will not be subjected to a week-long quarantine, the civil aviation authority said in a statement.
Travellers must present proof they are fully vaccinated or a negative Covid test from the previous 72 hours, it said. 
The quarantine will be lifted from Monday but other restrictions "for domestic or international flights will be in effect until April 26", the aviation authority said. 
The announcement comes despite a surge in coronavirus cases in the country, with dozens of deaths and more than 1,500 new infections per day. 
Virus restrictions are still in place in Greece, with only essential travel allowed between regions. 
Greece is eager to reopen its badly hit tourism sector this summer and has ramped up its vaccine rollout in the hopes of building up a "wall of immunity" for residents, the government has said. 
It aims to finish vaccinating all the over-60s by May.
The pandemic has ravaged tourism on the continent -- Greece included -- with many nations shutting borders for non-essential travel. 
The European Union has said it wants to launch a vaccine passport for travellers, though plans have not yet been formalised.&nbsp;

Mayor of Kalesija Sead Džafić received representatives of the Civil-Military Cooperation Support Team at the US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina and members of the CIMIC team of the B&amp;H Armed Forces, and the topic of discussion was joint military exercises of the Armed Forces of B&amp;H and the United States of America near the Municipality of Kalesija. 

As it was said at the meeting, in mid-May, a military exercise will be held at the Dubrava Military Base with the participation of about 200 soldiers from the USA and soldiers from the B&amp;H Armed Forces, while about 600 soldiers will perform the same exercise at two more locations in B&amp;H. With this exercise, Bosnia and Herzegovina is improving its partnership with US and NATO partners and will continue to develop interoperability and operations capabilities.
-I am glad that the US policy is still in favor of our country and this exercise is a proof that they are still present on our soil and that the exercise will further contribute to the security and stability of B&amp;H. Their knowledge, which they will transfer to the Armed Forces of B&amp;H in these exercises, is something we should appreciate and respect- said municipal mayor Džafić.

The Canadian province of Ontario will begin offering AstraZeneca’s (AZN.L) COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday to people turning 40 or older this year, according to a government source.

The change will broaden access to vaccines as a third wave of infections threatens to overwhelm hospitals in Canada's most-populous province, and should make it easier to use doses that in some cases have been accumulating at pharmacies.
The change will be announced on Monday and go into effect across the province on Tuesday, according to the source. The vaccine has already been distributed to pharmacies but currently can only be given to people turning 55 or older this year.

The measures were widely criticized by doctors and public health experts, and the province quickly reopened playgrounds and modified the new police powers.
On March 29, Health Canada said it would review reports of serious blood clots and bleeding in a small number of people who had received the AstraZeneca vaccine in other countries, and an independent panel called the National Advisory Council on Immunization (NACI) recommended that it only be given to people 55 and older. All provinces followed that advice.
But NACI’s recommendations are not binding. Last week, Health Canada, the country’s drug regulator, said it had reviewed all available evidence and would not restrict the use of the vaccine, because its benefits outweigh its potential risks. Health Canada said at the time that NACI was reviewing its recommendations.
On Sunday, NACI's chair told Reuters that the panel would make a new recommendation on Tuesday.
Health Canada said regulators in the UK had estimated the risk of clots to be very small, roughly four in a million people who receive the vaccine. It also said the complication was treatable. Two people have developed it in Canada, and both are recovering.

Serbia is planning to begin the production of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus by the end of May, an official said on Friday.

Nenad Popović, the minister in charge of innovations and technological development, said that the Torlak Institute in Belgrade will produce 4 million doses of the vaccine in the first phase.
Popović said that 3,000 vials of components 1 and 2 each have been filled at Torlak.
-Some 1,100 vials of the two components will be sent to the Gamaleya Institute in Moscow, where they will be analyzed by experts for 21 days ​and decide whether Torlak is ready to start the production- said Popović.
The Balkan country so far vaccinated nearly 2 million of its 7 million population with two doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
The country became a regional hub for vaccination after inviting citizens from neighboring countries to receive free jabs.
Serbia also plans to start producing China’s Sinopharm vaccine.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged lawmakers on Friday to approve new powers that would allow her to force coronavirus lockdowns and curfews on areas with high infection rates, saying a majority of Germans were in favour of stricter measures.

-The third wave of the pandemic has our country firmly in its grip- said Merkel, whose speech in parliament was interrupted by heckling from lawmakers of the far-right Alternative for Germany party opposed to lockdowns.

Her government wants parliament to change the Infection Protection Act to enable federal authorities to enforce restrictions even if regional leaders resist them, hoping to alleviate pressure on intensive care units.
The imposition of curfews and granting the federal government powers to force them on Germany's 16 states has also drawn criticism from within Merkel's conservative bloc, which opinion polls suggest will suffer their worst ever result in a September national election.
Unlike Britain and France, Germany has been reluctant to impose drastic limits on movement in a country fiercely protective of democratic freedoms due to its Nazi and Communist past.
Opponents of the lockdown have held demonstrations across Germany, but particularly in the former east, which is more supportive of the AfD. The far-right party says restrictions have failed to halt the pandemic and that they cause more damage to both the economy and people's mental health.
Merkel acknowledged in her speech that the new powers were no bullet-proof solution to the pandemic, which she said could only be defeated with vaccinations.
AfD parliamentary leader Alice Weidel said the new measures were an unprecedented attack on basic democratic freedoms.

Undertakers protested on Friday against a massive backlog of coffins building up at Rome cemeteries, saying city authorities were failing to cope with a surge of coronavirus deaths.

Funeral directors said more than 2,000 bodies were being stored at Rome's sole crematorium, which can handle around 50 cremations a day, while mortuary rooms at other cemeteries were packed, awaiting burial or interment.
Some bodies have been in storage since the start of the year, they said.
-Every few days we are told the cemeteries are blocked and they haven't got any more room to take in the dead- said Giovanni Caciolli, head of Italy's federation of funeral workers.
In a statement earlier this week, the city council company that handles burials and cremations, AMA, acknowledged that it was facing an unprecedented situation and was working to create 60,000 new burial plots for the city.
-AMA is doing its utmost to deal with a steadily increasing number of deaths- it said.
It said the city had registered 4,763 more deaths between October 2020 and March 2021 than in the same months of 2019/2020, with the rising trend continuing into April.
Italy has reported 116,000 coronavirus-related deaths so far. The majority have been in northern Italy, but in recent months the virus has claimed a growing number of victims in central and southern Italy.
Funeral directors say hearses face lengthy queues at city cemeteries as they await workers to log and store the coffins.
A video obtained by Reuters showed large refrigerated containers parked outside the Prima Porta cemetery. Workers said the containers were being used to hold coffins.
Protesters on Friday laid funeral wreaths in front of the Temple of Hercules, close to Rome city hall.

Earlier this week a local man plastered huge posters across the city apologising to his mother, who died in early March but whose body is still stuck in storage. "I am sorry mum that I've not been able to have you buried yet," the posters say.
Opposition politicians say the crisis could have been averted if the city had heeded warnings in 2017 that it needed to modernise and develop the crematorium.

As FENA learns, the Presidency of B&amp;H gave its consent to the conclusion of an international agreement on the procurement of vaccines between the Republic of Austria and Bosnia and Herzegovina, related to the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines, at today's telephone session, at the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The trial of the Prime Minister of the Federation of B&amp;H, Bakir's Prime Minister Fadil Novalić and others in the "Respirators" affair continued today in the Court of B&amp;H.
In addition to Novalić, FB&amp;H Finance Minister Jelka Milićević, suspended director of the Federal Civil Protection Administration Fahrudin Solak and Fikret Hodžić, owner of the "Silver Raspberry" company, are also charged. They are accused of procuring 100 respirators from China worth 10.5 million KM. They are also on trial for the purchase of medical equipment worth 2.9 million KM.
Aida Čorbeg, an anesthesiologist from Travnik, testified as a witness at today's hearing. She explained the circumstances of communication with Novalić's secretary Bahra Džaka, who, according to the previously presented correspondence, was interested in the quality of certain types of respirators.
-In the mail I received a picture of a respirator "Gorej 3.000" which I said was good and that they should search in that direction. She said that there was no regular tender procedure, that it was a state of emergency, that's how I understood it. I said about transport respirators that they are not okay and that they should not consider them. - stated Čorbeg.
She testified that when giving her opinion, she was guided by the specification of the device since she was an anesthesiologist.
- In one message, I received a picture of a transport respirator, which I said was out of the question, and Bahra replied that she would tell this to the Prime Minister, and let him decide. I was getting pictures and specifications of several respirators, I was just looking at those that could be used in intensive care units - said Čorbeg.
Čorbeg also said that in the message from Džaka she received a specification of the respirator "ICU Ventilator" which was named by the code, and according to the specification she determined that it meets the criteria for the treatment of patients with coronavirus.
She also said that she sent Džaka contacts of companies that procure respirators to facilitate the process via Viber, and in one of the messages Džaka wrote to her: "I don't know why the Prime Minister took to do this, he transferred everything to the cabinet."

In the mail I received a picture of a respirator "Gorej 3.000" which I said was good and that they should search in that direction. I wanted to help. She asked for my position on respirators because she knew I was an anesthesiologist. She said that there was no regular tender procedure, that it was a state of emergency, that's how I understood it. I said about transport respirators that they are not okay and that they should not consider them. In giving my opinion, I was guided exclusively by specifications. I did not look at the manufacturer, the price or the supplier - stated Čorbeg.

She testified that when giving her opinion, she was guided by the specification of the device since she was an anesthesiologist.
- In one message, I received a picture of a transport respirator, which I said was out of the question, and Bahra replied that she would tell this to the Prime Minister, and let him decide. I was getting pictures and specifications of several respirators, I was just looking at those that could be used in intensive care units - said Čorbeg.
Čorbeg also said that in the message from Džaka she received a specification of the respirator "ICU Ventilator" which was named by the code, and according to the specification she determined that it meets the criteria for the treatment of patients with coronavirus.
During the correspondence via Viber, she sent to Džaka contacts of companies that deal with the procurement of respirators in order to facilitate the procurement, and in one of the messages, Džaka wrote to her: "I don't know why the Prime Minister took to do this, he transferred everything to the cabinet."
Prosecutor Mirza Hukelić asked the witness if she had ever heard of a respirator marked "ACM 81 A", and she replied that she had learned about this type of device from media reports.
Vasvija Vidović, defense counsel for the first indictee Novalić, in cross-examination asked the witness if she knew what the conditions were for the procurement of respirators on the market at the time, and she replied that she learned from the media that "there is a general procurement race and that all countries are struggling to get them, but that she was not aware that America and the EU have banned the export of respirators ".
Šejla Cilović - Lagarija, an employee of the Federal Institute of Public Health, also testified, explaining that an analysis of the needs for medical equipment for the FB&amp;H had been made.

She stated that the director of the Institute, Davor Pehar, told her to make an analysis of the condition and needs for medical equipment with her colleague Aida Ramić-Čatak.
The analysis was requested at a meeting attended by Dr. Goran Čerkez and Marina Bera.
- We requested from all the cantonal institutes to send us what is missing from the medical equipment and what they have at their disposal. Based on that, after five days we made an analysis. We have consolidated the data - stated Cilović-Lagarija.
Prosecutor Hukeljić asked the witness if she knew what happened to the analyzes after they were completed, and she said that she handed them over to Director Pehar. He was also interested in how the analyzes were adopted, but she could not remember, so Hukeljić reminded her with a statement she gave during the investigation.
After that, Cilović-Lagarija confirmed that the analyzes were adopted in the Viber group of the Federal Crisis Staff.
Hukeljić asked the witness if there had ever been any offers or prices for certain medical equipment in the Institute, and she said that all offers had been recorded. After a few additional questions, the witness recalled that they also made a table with "approximate" prices of equipment.
After that, the prosecutor was interested in how they found out about the prices, where they got the information from, and Cilović-Lagarija said that they found the prices on the Internet.

We remind you that Novalić, Solak and Hodžić are accused of associating in order to commit criminal offenses related to acts of abuse of position or authority, receiving a reward or other form of benefit for trading in influence.
The indictment also charges them with money laundering, falsification or destruction of business or trade books or documents, falsification of official documents and violation of the obligation to keep trade or business books and compile financial reports and their falsification or destruction.
The next hearing is scheduled for April 21st, and Davor Pehar and Marina Bera will testify.

Protected persons who are escorted 24/7 in B&amp;H are classified into three categories and, depending on that, they are accompanied by a different number of police officers, and thus official cars, which also affects the costs of escort.

Among them are members of the Presidencies of B&amp;H, the chairman and ministers in the Council of Ministers of B&amp;H, the Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of B&amp;H, the President of the Court of B&amp;H, members of the Collegium of the House of Peoples and the House of Representatives of the B&amp;H Parliament, as well as foreign officials.
The story of unnecessary expenses accumulating was reactivated after Foreign Minister Bisera Turković (SDA) was filmed shopping in an official car with her escort after working hours.
She later justified herself by saying that she, as the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of B&amp;H, must be accompanied and that she cannot reject that.

B&amp;H Minister of Transport and Communications Vojin Mitrović (SNSD) is proof that ministers can refuse official escort.
Namely, he is the only minister in this convocation of the Council of Ministers of B&amp;H who refused official escort, and the driver comes from Bijeljina from his private company. He is also the minister with the fewest advisers, there are only two of them.
- This is my personal decision, the law allowed me to have official escort and a driver, but I don't want that. Since taking office in December 2019, I have refused that privilege. I don't think anyone should protect me from my people. If someone still needs to protect me from the people, then I should not be in this position - Mitrović said for the "Avaz" portal.
He added that this is still his personal decision, which he has nurtured since the beginning of his term as Minister of Transport and Communications of B&amp;H.
- That decision was not made today, but today it is especially important because that money can be redirected to other purposes. It is really my personal decision that I should not be protected from my people by the police or special units - Mitrović is categorical.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina was informed today that new quantities of AstraZeneca vaccines will be delivered to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last week of April or early May.
 
The Ministry was confirmed by the UNICEF Office in B&amp;H that 81,600 doses of vaccines should be delivered through two deliveries.
The first delivery is expected in the last week of April or early May, while the second delivery is scheduled within five weeks after the said delivery.
The Ministry will be subsequently informed about the number of doses per delivery, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of B&amp;H announced.
These deliveries are part of the previously allocated quantity of 108,000 doses for the period February-May 2021, within which 26,400 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines have already been delivered to Bosnia and Herzegovina at the end of March. These are deliveries of vaccines that Bosnia and Herzegovina purchased through the "COVAX" mechanism.
The Ministry will continue to regularly inform the public about the latest information regarding the delivery of vaccines.
