A large number of citizens gathered today at the Square of Children of Sarajevo in front of the stand of the “Gračanica crochet” from Gračanica to commemorate the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and to receive a sample of the Flower of Srebrenica. 

President of the Association Azemina Ahmedbegovic says that these flowers were crafted by valuable hands of female members of the association, and it carries the message that the genocide of 1995, should never be forgotten and never repeated. 

“The threads of the Flower bind us all, we distribute the truth in our own way. This symbol is recognized by the whole world, and we want it to be a symbol of the fight against genocide, but for that we need the support of all in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” she said. 

The Flower of Srebrenica has eleven petals, and white and green pistils in the middle. Association “Gračanica crochet” designed and promoted the 2011 Flower to commemorate the victims of Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the purpose of uniting the world in memory of the victims of genocide and raise awareness about war crimes.” 

The white color symbolizes innocence, green is hope, and eleven petals represent July 11, 1995 the day the suffering of Bosniaks in Srebrenica. 

Members of the Association “Gračanica crochet” so far have produced more than 100,000 copies of this flower. 

Symbolic distribution of promotional materials and distribution of the Flower of the Association “Gračanica crochet work” marked the day of remembrance of the victims of genocide in Srebrenica today and in the streets of Zenica, Bihać and Mostar.
