In Sarajevo yesterday and today is held II International Conference of Lions of Central and Eastern Europe. This event is held for the second time in succession in Sarajevo promoting popularization of lionism. Since the beginning of the war till this day the Lions Clubs International across Bosnia and Herzegovina have invested over $ 9 million for the purchase of the necessary medical equipment, and various types of assistance to those who need it the most. This year's event is held under the slogan of Lions around the world: "We serve."

The first conference of Lions CEE was held in May of 2014 during the tragic floods in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia and LCIF donated some very significant grants.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the help of LCIF, the Lions of BiH shared food packages on May 30th of 2014 as well as donating  10,000 USD to Željezno polje. After this donation LCIF has awarded a grant in the amount of $ 50,000 to a flooded city of Maglaj, and the Lions of BiH delivered medical equipment to the Health Centre Maglaj on November 18,2014.

Brief history

Lions Clubs International (LCI) is a secular, non-political service organization founded by Melvin Jones in 1917. As of April 2015, it had over 46,000 local clubs and more than 1.4 million members in over 200 countries around the world. Headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, United States, the organization aims to meet the needs of communities on a local and global scale.

Purpose:

To Organize, charter and supervise service clubs to be known as Lions clubs.

To Coordinate the activities and standardize the administration of Lions clubs.

To Create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.

To Promote the principles of good government and good citizenship.

To Take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.

To Unite the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding.

To Provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members.

To Encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors.

Charitable work

Much of the focus of Lions Clubs International work as a service club organization is to raise money for worthy causes. All funds raised by Lions Clubs from the general public are used for charitable purposes, and administrative costs are kept strictly separate and paid for by members. Some of the money raised for a club’s charity account goes toward projects that benefit the local community of an individual club.
